Or Torah, the largest modern orthodox shul in the Chicago area consists of 4 chapels. The project at the synagogue includes the main shul, bet midrash, east and west sanctuaries. The remodel consists of Aron Kodeshes, Torah Reading tables, amud tefillah, mechitzas and ner tamid for each of the chapels. The seating for the first stage of the project includes 311 seats of benches and 339 chairs, for a total of 650 seats. The main sanctuary will also include a movable wheelchair accessible bimah stage, podiums, and a built in mechitza.
All the furniture was designed in a contemporary style, in partnership between Bass Furniture and the Or Torah renovation committee. All the furniture will be built from high quality Beechwood, the hardwood of choice for chairs and benches. It is a very hard wood with stable properties. The work will receive a water-based stain of dark walnut and three coats of the professional lacquer, sanding between coats.
